PEACE IN THE COMMUNITY
Harrow Peace Week
Saturday 15th September 2007 12-5pm
Following its success last year, the London Week of Peace, is planned for the 9th to the 16th of September 2007. The week will profile and promote community safety and peace initiatives, offering Londoners the opportunity to participate and dialogue in a range of issues, whilst being able to contribute to a more cohesive society.
The London Week of Peace has continually been endorsed by the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, Metropolitan Police and various leading political figures. It is facilitated by the strategic group involving representatives from the Greater London Authority, Government Office for London, the Home office, the Metropolitan Police Authority, Crimestoppers, London Fire Brigade, The Peace Alliance and other strategic interest groups.
Harrow police are organising “ Peace in the Community” at RCT Sports Ground, Headstone Lane, Harrow on Saturday 15th September 2007. This event will bring together a host of different faiths, ages and cultures to enjoy the day and experience the different cultures, foods and sports. The two sports on the day will be Cricket, with the help of a former Pakistan player who is now a police employee, and 5 -a- side football tournament organised by a safer schools officer and lead on the Kickz project.
The police will supply their recruitment double decker bus and will welcome applications to work for the police from across the spectrum and there will also be property marking and crime prevention advice.
Other partners who will also be present on the day are:
London Fire Brigade, St Johns Ambulance, Faith Groups, Cultural Groups, Harrow Council and many others.
The aim of Peace in the Community is to work together as a community to create a friendly and harmonized atmosphere to break down barriers and to educate people about different cultures and faiths and to leave a lasting and positive impression of peace and harmony throughout the community.
