Positive Conflict.
During this year’s London Week of Peace, a group of Hackney’s young innovators will host an event entitled Positive Conflict to showcase the findings of the summer peer research project. Throughout the summer break Hackney Mediation Service in partnership with CityZEN recruited and trained a team of young people to carry out research into conflict in the Borough. The team members aged between 14 and 19 carried out over 200 interviews and conducted 2 focus groups.

The team’s aim was to check in with their peers about their experience of conflict and views on positive ways of dealing with it. The findings of the research are to be used to develop peer-led mediation services in Hackney.   The team of peer researchers have significantly raised the profile of non-violent approaches to conflict and have spread the word about peer mediation. The whole project has also been filmed and a documentary created. The documentary will be premiered at the Positive Conflict event.

Participants will be able to explore conflict through workshops, 2D art, street poetry, music and theatre as well as viewing the documentary. The Hackney Mediation Service/CityZEN peer research project has been supported by Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP), Tower Hamlets Mediation Service, Southwark Mediation Centre, Hackney Empire and Leap’s youth mediation project Peerlink.
