The Peace Awards 2008 | |||
![]() The London Week of Peace Awards 2008 will be presented at the annual dinner and fundraising auction on 18th September 2008 to recognise diverse contributions to the peace and safety of London’s communities through individual or collective endeavour. The Awards, form part of the London Week of Peace and are sponsored by partners from the public and private sectors working together to support this initiative. This year’s theme is ‘Dreams’, and is based upon the need to provide good role models and mentors for young people.
In all cases recipients will be shown to have contributed to greater community cohesion, safety and peace in local neighbourhoods as well as across the Capital.
![]() While some categories lend themselves to nominations for major projects impacting across London, there is plenty of scope to recognise the enterprise and commitment of individuals and groups at a local level. So, be brave! We are looking for examples of work that helps local people and brings peace to neighbourhoods through celebration, reconciliation and collaboration. Examples from past projects include school mentoring; martial arts training for young people; faith based community support; volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to reducing violence in their neighbourhoods and faith based groups who help vulnerable young people.
Where appropriate the winning entries will be publicised to partnerships and voluntary groups across London as examples of potential good practice.
